UCAY at the Community Christmas Ornament Event – December 6

The Ukrainian Canadian Association of the Yukon was honoured to take part in the “Community Christmas Ornament” event on Saturday Dec 6th.  We thank the Canada Games Centre and The Japanese Canadian Association for sponsoring this gathering which gave us the opportunity to share our Christmas traditions with other cultural groups from our diverse community.

UCAY offered adults and children Petrykivka-stlye painting, a traditional  Ukrainian decorative folk art, along with creating wheat ornaments inspired by the Didukh – a beautiful arranged sheaf of wheat, placed in homes during the holidays, a symbol of family and unity.  Using the technic of creating the traditional Motanka dolls, families fashioned Angels representing protection, prosperity, and hope.

These ornaments, together with those created by other cultures in our Whitehorse community will decorate the CGC Christmas tree.
